Forward-thinking Fashion

With the American Music Awards recently we have seen a bold and rare glimpse at where the fashion world is heading. Designer like Dior and Prada are in for a shock. With black leather, shorter skirts and less flattering lines, we can tell that fashion is headed in a futuristic and bold new direction.
This was apparent at the New York and Milan fashion weeks earlier this year, with designs that defied the natural shape of a woman’s body but paid homage to Star Wars-like costumes. Many designers view this transition as ideal, giving them more leeway to create designs that are coordinated with a theme, as with the grease themes of the 50s.
Nearly every female performing artist at the American Music Awards was clad in black leather, with silver of gold highlights and an excess of texture and tattoos. It was a strange sight, but one that played out performance after performance, as if the awards ceremony itself was themed. Here is what you can look forward to seeing on the runway in coming months: black leather, flaps of fabric, high boots or strapped shoes and a surprising but incredibly sexy flashback hairstyle from the 20s with curls and bobs. You’ll see more belts, more sunglasses, and less on the bottom half. Shorter skirts and shorts will be in style while tops will get longer and less form-fitting. While these looks are not very sexy or flattering, they are a trend that the fashion industry seems fully willing to follow to its end.
