Celebrity Sunglasses Fashion

Olivia Mum in Oliver Peoples. These sunglasses look like they were made for her face. This is the best example of a person really taking the time and energy to find a look that works so well for her that it appears the frames were built for her specifically. This kind of attention to detail is unique, but is doesn’t have to be. There are a few things that celebrities do when choosing frames to achieve this one-of-a-kind look.
First, like Olivia, you need to find frames that fit. That means finding frames for your gender and then looking at the shape of your head and trying to match that to your frames. For example, if you have a tiny head try kid’s designer sunglasses. They often have the same looks as adults but small enough for anyone to wear. Unless you have a giant head, that is. And for bigger skulls, try for frames that are solid and wrap around, which make the head look logically proportioned and not overly large. Simple, metal frames achieve the opposite, and make the head look bigger than it is. Knowing these few proportional things can help to give you a more customized look and style.
Another thing that celebrities do well is follow the trends and use the ones that work for them. Sometimes you’ll see someone in a style that is popular but isn’t flattering for them personally, this shows a total lack of creativity and attention to detail, and is a real shame because fads are simply that, flashes in the pan. Fashion is lasting.

Allergies and Eyewear
Filed Under Brands Wave, Designer Eyeglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Allergies are a pain in the neck.. And throat. And eyes. And ears. Everywhere, really. The last thing you want when you have allergy problems is to add to the problem by tossing in a touch of agony by wearing contact lenses. Even the best hydrating lenses like Acuvue Contacts don’t stop the pain and itchiness that comes from contact lenses in allergy season. Thus, do yourself a favor and stick to eyeglasses in spring and fall when the seasons change.
Some things to keep in mind are that carrying eye drops may help you stay hydrated without overly affecting your vision or comfort. You’ll also need to wash your hands frequently. We all know you’ll be forces to touch your eyes so don’t risk them being dirty or covered in pollen. No one is disciplined enough to keep from scratching an itch, so plan ahead and keep clean and hopefully you won’t end up making any of the problems worse.
One of the best ways to keep your allergies under order is to wash your glasses every night. You can soak them in water overnight and scrub them down periodically and make sure you keep them clean. This little soaking trick makes the difference during a long spring when allergies are at their highest.
Keeping sunglasses on all season can keep some particles from getting into your eyes, and keep your eyes hidden if they do happen to be overly red or itchy. For people whose sinuses are out of control this is one of the best ways to keep your allergies a secret. Although you’ll need to be able to wear sunglasses that are not too heavy so that they don’t add more pressure to your sinuses.

Cleaning Sunglasses
Filed Under Designer Eyeglasses, Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Cleaning your designer eyeglasses and sunglasses, big brands like Fendi, Ralph Lauren and Dior, you’ll want to know the best methods so you don’t injure your expensive, brand-name shades. Especially with designer stuff you need to be careful with how you clean. The products are made well, and are durable and will stand normal wear and tear, but most people don’t realize that the standard method of cleaning actually damages your glasses.
First, soak your glasses in water overnight, even if they are metal they should not rust if they are actual real designer shades. In the morning, the grime and oil should have broken down. Now you can gently wash the lenses with soapy water, making sure not to rub in any grit (scratching the lenses). When you are done, rinse them under powerful streams of water to knock off any residue before you wipe them clean. Never wipe them without washing first, or you’ll just move stuff around on the lens and cause scratches.
If you find your glasses soiled during the day, head to the bathroom and wash them in the sink with hot water and soap before wiping them down. If you don’t have access to water then do your best with the cloth, but keep in mind that you may scratch them if you see even the smallest particle on the lenses.
You should also get your eyes tested yearly, and if you are young at least twice a year as your eyes may still be growing. This means you may be replacing your glasses every year, but its always better safe then sorry when it comes to your health, and especially your sight.

Passionate Fashion
Filed Under Designer Eyeglasses, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
How do you get passionate a bout a drab wardrobe? You spice it up, that’s how. First, find that one special item in the closet that you absolutely love. The piece that defines you. For some, it will be their Jimmy Choo shoes, or their Prada sunglasses, or maybe an Alexander McQueen skirt. For me, it’s my Nike eyeglasses- clean-lined, crisp and neat. If you find an item you love and start to base your wardrobe only around this one piece you’ll find you get a wardrobe you are happy about ad one that you are passionate for. You won’t wake up in the morning worried about what to wear because every item in the closet it one you love. Wouldn’t that be nice?
It is possible. First you need to throw out all the clothes you never wear. Open the closet and look at every piece and unless it is an extremely dressy item then if you haven’t worn it in the past 6 months throw it away. Step one to getting passionate about fashion it so purge the drawers of everything you dislike. No ugly items in this awesome wardrobe! Toss out socks with no mate—you’ll never find them! Toss out undies that don’t make you feel sexy. Toss out shirts you never wear (yes, that means the company retreat 1997 T-shirt you keep because you finally kissed your workspace crush.
After you clean out the closets and have the item you love, start thinking about what makes that piece special for you. Is it the texture? The shape? The colors? Then find other items that you can wear with that piece.

Why eyeglasses are better than contacts
Filed Under Designer Eyeglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments

If you think about it, it doesn’t seem natural to have a piece of glass, plastic or anything else rubbing on your eyeball all day. Give me a nice pair of Ralph Lauren eyeglasses any day. But contact lenses have been proven to be entirely safe. Take, for example, the thousand of double blind studied performed on every new addition to the contact lens portfolio. The only lenses so far to have any adverse effects are tinted lenses that may effect your color perception (like the cat eye lens). If you leave contacts in for too long, problems can arise like dry eye, strain or even damage from the lens rubbing against your eyeball.
Glasses are getting cool again, too. The geek chic look is in full swing and big names like Anne Hathaway are pioneering the geek look in a whole new, sexy way. Its amazing that what was hot in our grandparent’s generation is coming back into style now, proving that fashion is cyclical in nature more than we imagined. Horn-rimmed and tortoise shell glasses are gaining in popularity. My grandmother has a picture of herself wearing these glasses and now hot girls wear them as a sex symbol.
For me the debate is simple, I’ll keep the plastic out of my eyes and just deal with the frames. They can be annoying to deal with sometimes, but in the end its better then sticking your dirty fingers in your eyes and having plastic pieces stuck in them.

Geek Chic Still in Style
Filed Under Designer Eyeglasses, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Anne Hathaway is a stunning woman, a sexy, beautiful and intelligent feminine character in Hollywood. But why is she wearing the same frames as many elderly men in libraries and chess halls across Eastern Europe? This was how she dressed at the recent première of Rio (image).
These Carrera eyeglasses (or sunglasses with no lenses) offer something Hathaway couldn’t get without them—a distinct look in a Hollywood that is full of gorgeous women. She needs to look smart, young and approachable, a look she achieves by wearing girly clothing, geeky glasses and hair that is pulled back and yet wispy and falling out of control, almost like she jogged to the Rio première.
In this length of dress she is also adding a childish element to her look, especially given the long sleeves and heels that, unless you look closely, could be dress up materials. She has a distinctly childish and geeky look. Perhaps this is because she is premièring a kid’s film, but perhaps also she is trying to stand out in a world where beauty is everything.
To get the geek look, simply think like a teenager who still lives at home. You want to look sexy and fresh but not so sexy that your mom won’t let you leave the house. Think short sleeves, short skirts (past the fingertips!) and childish necklines. Form fitted is good, and loose, unkempt hair gives a wild and untamed look. Bold colors like black, red and white should be avoided as overly mature, but pastels, purple, blue and green are all perfect for the geeky childish fashionable look.

How to Take Care of Eyeglasses
Filed Under Designer Eyeglasses, Eyewear Knowledge, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
If you’ve just spent a great deal of money on designer eyeglasses then you’ll want to take care of them in the best possible way. You can’t just wipe down your designer Ralph Lauren glasses and have them still look identical in a year and a half. No, you’ll need to up your ‘home care’ procedures to include a few new tricks to keeping your eyeglasses perfect for much, much longer.
First, soak your eyeglasses overnight. The paint on the frames will protect the plastic or metal from rusting or peeling. If you soak them overnight, any grease or hard material stuck to the lenses can easily and without resistance, fall off. If you have tough stains, a bit of soap in the water should do the trick. You should only have to soak them once a month or so.
Second, blow dry the lenses and frames using either a hair dryer or a puff ball. Again, this step is only if you just soaked them or if there are large amounts of dust or sand on your lenses.
Third, wipe down the lenses with a lens cleaning cloth. If you purchased your eyeglasses through this site you should have received a free lens cleaning kit that contains the cloth you need.
Holding your glasses up to the light, check that everything looks clean and that there are no spots on your lenses. If not, you are done!
During the day, make sure not to touch the lenses or wipe them down with anything other than the appropriate lens cloth. Some fabrics are abrasive and leave microscopic damage to the lens or scratch off the coatings over time.

How to Dress Like a Sexy Dork
Filed Under Celebrity Watch, Designer Eyeglasses, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Sexiness isn’t about lace and leather, its about subtlety. Nothing says sexy like a librarian who knows bending over a shelf to restock a book is drawing longing glances from across the library. It isn’t pole dancing or stripping, which is crude and unrefined. Its living the sexy look from day to day, and refining sex appeal to fit your personality. Recently, the sexy geek look has taken hold! Look out men, ladies will be emerging in black Jimmy Choo glasses or Armani frames ready to party but looking like your old babysitter.
Sexiness isn’t always about going over the top with fashion. In fact, the most sexy women are the ones who don’t try too hard. Men see women who try too hard as difficult, demanding and high maintenance. Avoid this and make yourself approachable and accessible. Geeks are approachable, they are likable, they are smart, witty and bright.
Get the look by buying oversized glasses. I recommend a trendy but not over-the-top brand like
Alexander McQueen. Simple clothing like a wife-beater shirt and jeans with these glasses make any look better. Make your punch with accessories instead of clothing and make statements with a few huge items like an over jacket or colorful bag.
For men, the geek chic look is also easily attainable. Flannel shirts are an easy way to bridge the gap and break into the geek world. Glasses are one of the most important accessories for men. Think square, thick-framed and abnormally large. Think of all the famous geeks and their famous and iconic eyewear and mimic the pros.

Black and Professional or Colorful and Fun?
Filed Under Brands Wave, Designer Eyeglasses, Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Choosing a direction when it comes to your wardrobe may have been a conscious choice or it may have been something you watched, almost like a spectator, happen as you accumulated more and more clothing. Were you drawn to black designer goods like Prada and Dior, or were you possibly drawn to color, like Alexander McQueen or Ed Hardy? Either way, it says a lot about your personality, your business style and your goals and ambitions.

International Fashion Trends 2010
Filed Under Designer Eyeglasses, Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge, Fun with Eyewear, International Designer Glasses Blogs, Vision Direct Sponsorship | View Comments
At times, the international world and the regional fashion trends don’t overlap or, in some cases, even relate. When Dior was big in America, it was a lesser-known designer brand in Europe. But, to be an internationally adept model or fashion fanatic you need to be able to be versatile and follow the international fashion trends year by year.
In 2010 some interesting international trends emerged that a real fan would be aware of already. To highlight the obvious—black was back this past year in a big way. The most obvious trend was also the most subtle. Black is nearly always hot, but this year black was back with a vengeance. We saw loads of texture and flare, but with a subdued or subtle coloring scheme instead of the loud and obvious of previous years. The trends became so main-stream in the fashion world that even designer advertisements and runway shows had an overly black focus. We’re talking black lace, leather and suede, black veneer and black accessories.
In the accessories world, green became the new black, and we don’t mean the color green. Being world-environment friendly is the hottest thing in the fashion world, and bone, wood and other natural and non finite items in accessories was extremely hot. Even in the eyewear industry, there were wooden frames released recently as well as the Oakley all-recycled frames. Fashion is always hot, but being environmentally active as well as smoking hot is a killer combo, in any country.
