Children’s Sunglasses
Filed Under Brands Wave, Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Kids in sunglasses are simply adorable! Ralph Lauren sunglasses for kids may cost more, and yeah they might break them, but it teaches your children to have respect for high-end things early in life, and more importantly the real deal will protect your kid rather than just decorate him or her. Keep in mind that buying them cheap, gas station sunglasses just because they might damage designer ones is a bad idea because the quality of rip-off glasses is so poor they really don’t do much in the way of protect your little angel.
Its also important to buy sunglasses that are meant for children, not just smaller adult sunglasses. They need to wrap around the head and fit snugly into place (not too snug, we don’t want to cause brain damage!). Otherwise, you’ll be training your kid to think sunglasses are uncomfortable. More importantly, light will come in from the sides and the child, especially younger kids, won’t understand the point of sunglasses if light can penetrate even when you wear them.
Sunscreen, hats and other protective measures are great habits to teach kids early on. Hats area especially good for protecting the vulnerable head area on an child, and the back of the neck, which burns easily. Sunscreen is ideal for the face, arms and legs when children run about. More importantly, teach kids to put it on themselves before they go out each day (even in winter) to get the habit engrained early on. They’ll be thanking you when they are cancer free at 50.

Why eyeglasses are better than contacts
Filed Under Designer Eyeglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments

If you think about it, it doesn’t seem natural to have a piece of glass, plastic or anything else rubbing on your eyeball all day. Give me a nice pair of Ralph Lauren eyeglasses any day. But contact lenses have been proven to be entirely safe. Take, for example, the thousand of double blind studied performed on every new addition to the contact lens portfolio. The only lenses so far to have any adverse effects are tinted lenses that may effect your color perception (like the cat eye lens). If you leave contacts in for too long, problems can arise like dry eye, strain or even damage from the lens rubbing against your eyeball.
Glasses are getting cool again, too. The geek chic look is in full swing and big names like Anne Hathaway are pioneering the geek look in a whole new, sexy way. Its amazing that what was hot in our grandparent’s generation is coming back into style now, proving that fashion is cyclical in nature more than we imagined. Horn-rimmed and tortoise shell glasses are gaining in popularity. My grandmother has a picture of herself wearing these glasses and now hot girls wear them as a sex symbol.
For me the debate is simple, I’ll keep the plastic out of my eyes and just deal with the frames. They can be annoying to deal with sometimes, but in the end its better then sticking your dirty fingers in your eyes and having plastic pieces stuck in them.

Everyone wants to have a look that is definitive and clear, so people know what to expect when they invite you out to brunch. Are you a Prada girl or a sweatpants gal? So, how to you pick your fashion center and design a look that people can relate to and clearly define? We’ll tell you!
First, think about what kind of funding you want to invest in your look. If you have big bucks to spend then obviously any look can be yours. You can go for high-end fashion, laid back and cool, retro, vintage, unique—anything you want! So, if your budget is high, spend some time flipping through magazines until you find the look you like and then start to build an entire wardrobe off of that. You’ll want to incorporate a lot of high-end designer names in any look, and one affordable way to do this regardless of your budget is with sunglasses and other key accessories. Think big and go for the look that will get you the most street credit! Something like MiuMiu or Carrera or Prada.
If your budget is meager, don’t despair. Your look will take more time but it isn’t impossible to achieve a nice look on a low budget. Hunt for sales, scour the thrift shops and always keep an eye out for online deals.

Lenses have different colors. That’s why you’ll notice differences in sunglasses looks like the purple/pink tinting of Dior and the deep Black of Prada. The colors in between are also important, and we’ll details the uses for different hues here so you’ll know what lenses to buy and why.
Gray and green are neutral lenses, essentially lenses of these colors mean you are seeing the world as it is. These tint colors are ideal for anyone who needs to see something exactly, artists, surveyors, and farmers out checking their crops, to list a few examples.
Brown lenses increase contrast slightly, and for that reason are slightly better for people who are doing any activity that requires the brain and body to react very quickly. You’ll notice brown tinting on ski goggles, the contrast enhancement makes it easier to see variations in the snow.
Likewise, turquoise lenses (mix of green and brown) offer a more natural look at the world with some contrast enhancement. This is ideal for less speed vital activities where contrast is still vital, for example bird watching or hiking.
Orange lenses and yellow lenses both increase contrast but more importantly enhance depth perception and are thus ideal for hunters, shooters and boaters. You’ll often see pilots with slightly yellow tinted goggles, as depth is extremely important for flying.
Blue, pink and purple lenses are cosmetic, but there is some evidence to support the idea that these lenses make the world look brighter, more enhanced and thus increase mood. They are ideal for kids, or folks who are depressed and want a fresh look at the world.
