au1224.JPGWith the American Music Awards recently we have seen a bold and rare glimpse at where the fashion world is heading. Designer like Dior and Prada are in for a shock. With black leather, shorter skirts and less flattering lines, we can tell that fashion is headed in a futuristic and bold new direction.

This was apparent at the New York and Milan fashion weeks earlier this year, with designs that defied the natural shape of a woman’s body but paid homage to Star Wars-like costumes. Many designers view this transition as ideal, giving them more leeway to create designs that are coordinated with a theme, as with the grease themes of the 50s.

Nearly every female performing artist at the American Music Awards was clad in black leather, with silver of gold highlights and an excess of texture and tattoos. It was a strange sight, but one that played out performance after performance, as if the awards ceremony itself was themed. Here is what you can look forward to seeing on the runway in coming months: black leather, flaps of fabric, high boots or strapped shoes and a surprising but incredibly sexy flashback hairstyle from the 20s with curls and bobs. You’ll see more belts, more sunglasses, and less on the bottom half. Shorter skirts and shorts will be in style while tops will get longer and less form-fitting. While these looks are not very sexy or flattering, they are a trend that the fashion industry seems fully willing to follow to its end.

In Hollywood, whatever the stars wear will sell. Let’s take a look at what the stars are currently ga-ga after. For women, the latest trend among the stars is Prada’s new line MiuMiu, which offers a more youthful and colorful palate and series of designs. You won’t have to look hard to find the Olson twins, Lindsey Lohan and several other young stars wearing the new designs by Prada.

Antonio Bandaras and Morgan Freeman teamed up in a film so horrible I can’t recall even the name. Regardless, Antonio, a petty thief turned diamond stealer, wears nothing but Police sunglasses. This could be because he is the company’s spokesman, but more likely it is because Police sunglasses sell the image of a sexy rebel gone wild. This is why Justin Timberlake, George Clooney and others have all signed on to be Police models. This is a male Hollywood trend to keep your eye on, as it is likely to become the new Tom Ford for men in 2010.

Celebrities as well as civilians look to two particular stars for their fashion trends: Angelina Jolie and hubby Brad Pitt. You’ll be happy to know that while trends may come and go with these two, they have yet to throw away their tried-and-true Ray Ban Aviators, which both of them own designer classical pairs of. You’ll remember that they rocked the look in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Angelina has always been fond of Ray Bans, even in her Billy Bob Thorton days.

As Christmas approaches and the weather improves, keep these fashionable designer eyewear ideas in mind for creative and fun holiday gifts:

Ray Bans – these classy shades are always in style. For men, the Aviator style is perfect for an edgy and yet professional look that is as tried and true as the holidays themselves. For women, the recently resurgent Wayfarer style is all the modern rage. Brighter colors are in this year than in years past, so Wayfarers in pink, yellow, red and blue are flying off the shelves this season.

Go for Broke – For that special someone, there is nothing higher on the fashion food chain that Prada. Prada sunglasses this holiday are a great way to say you care and have been listening to her recent rants about fashion. If she isn’t a Prada fan, then the bet is on Versace or Gucci, both reputable names in the world of high fashion.

For Him – If you are looking for the hottest gift for your special beau, then look no further. Police sunglasses for men have been endorsed by only the hottest celebrities across the globe, and are the definitive “it” item for 2010. From George Clooney to Hugh Jackman to Antonio Bandaras, Police sunglasses are all they wear, and for good reason. Give the gift of cool to your man and show him you think he is a star.
