When it comes to high fashion, most of the time less is more. But this season, as the Paris and New York Fashion shows can attest, more is more. Dior fits the ballot as one of the top designers in the “more” category, with invigorating and intricate designs that do not shy away from being extreme, risky and bold.

Dior’s 2009/2010 fall fashion line of eyewear defied expectations by pumping up the glamour and glitz on their latest designs while other designers, namely Prada and Gucci, decided to play it safe and streamline their black designs to be ever more bleak. While we do love our Prada and Gucci designs, we were a bit disappointed with their lack of variation for the fall season, while other designers were willing to try something new.

For frills, whistles and bells check out the Dior line, but if you are looking for something more conservative than the latest updates in world fashion, than Dior definitely isn’t for you. Dior’s logo is already an intricate and beautiful piece of artwork, and the company’s designers proudly highlight the logo on every pair of the impeccably designed sunglasses. They work the logo into their designs rather than just slapping a logo on the side, as many design houses do once the product is finished, in this way Dior is a step ahead of the game in designer branding.

Australians are known around the world as travelers, rebels, outdoorsmen and partiers. But what many overlook is how well Aussies know their fashion. MiuMiu launched ad campaigns in Europe but fashion enthusiasts were too shy to be the first to latch on. In Australia women boldly tried something new and loved the MiuMiu look. Celebrities shooting or recording in Australia often come back irreparably changed for the better. Aussies know their fashion, and never the followers of trends, Aussies prefer to start their own fads and watch giddily as they spread across the globe.

Some of the fads specific to Australia at present include flowery and bright skirts with black leggings and colorful, flat shoes. In the fashion world it is commonly held that Australians started the slipper trend that has been such a blessing to ladies around the world tired of teetering atop high heels. In the accessories market, Australians are also paving the way with new ideas. The large bags and sunglasses common in the USA and Europe have been tossed aside in Australia in favor of compact bags and more colorful and cubist sunglasses.

Instead of the European favorite, the Jackie O sunglasses that dominate the entire face and make the woman wearing them look entirely like a bobble-head, Aussies have chosen to accessorize in such a manner so as to capitalize on women’s natural beauty and underline it with brightness. Glasses by Ralph Lauren are back in style in Sydney, where people have tossed the up-tight fashion of Prada and Gucci in favor of more practical and, at times, more fashionable brands like RL and Nike.

As the winter weather abates, it’s time to think about warm weather fashion, like Prada and Gucci and Versace, oh my! This season, colors are in high fashion. The 2009-2010 New York Fashion Week demonstrated last month the importance of color, texture and scale in upcoming fashion. This season, less it not more, less it definitely less fashionable.

Brighter colors – If New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week showed us anything, it was that color will be one of the primary trends of the coming season. Plaster yourself in white clothing with bright accessories to get the 2010 look. Use your body as a backdrop in white to highlight bright jewelry and sunglasses.

Texture – Ruffles, flares, high-hats and big hair were all features at this year’s design shows, which will likely transfer over into the ready-to-wear fashion industry. As applies to eyewear think of designers like Gucci and Alexander McQueen, whose sunglasses have added flare, designs and even add-ons. Texture in eyewear is becoming more common, especially among Hollywood and music elite.

Scale – More is more in 2010 fashion. The bigger your sunglasses, the more in fashion you are this coming season. Jackie O sunglasses are popular with younger woman while Ray Ban Wayfarers look stunning and large on older ladies.

So, this season, when buying designer eyewear, remember to think of color, texture and scale, and pick a design that works for you but fits within the confines of modern fashion. Some great designers to fit these criteria are MiuMiu, by Prada for women, or Police Sunglasses, for men.

For men and women alike, wearing designer eyewear signifies that you have respect for yourself, your health, and how you appear to the world. Designer eyewear is not just a name brand, fashion trend, it’s a way of life. A woman in Gucci eyewear day after day has confidence, determination and the ability to project these traits with her appearance.

Reason 1 – It says you have style. Style is more than just how you look to people, it’s about your class, your stature and your personality. Classy eyewear is one of the best ways to exude style because people look in your eyes when you talk, and they are the first accessory that has the opportunity to say something about you.

Reason 2 – Designer eyewear shows you don’t mess around, you get right down to business. In the professional world, employers look for someone who gets things done right the first time. Don’t buy no-name eyewear, it shows you are indecisive and leave things to the future that could be taken care of today.
Reason 3 – Designer eyewear, sunglasses and eyeglasses alike, are a great way to class up any outfit. Jeans and a T-shirt suddenly look well put together when you add Ray Bans to the mix.

Reason 4 – A whole community of people recognize name brand, designer eyewear and respect the superior quality and fashion that they offer. You are becoming a member of the elite with designer eyewear in a way that designer purses, shoes and other accessories cannot accomplish.

Reason 5 – Treat yourself! You know you want designer eyewear, instead of looking at pictures and idolizing people who have them, simply make the investment in a pair of nice glasses and treat yourself to something you want.
