What could be more exciting than four blokes rowing across the ocean, the wind in their hair, the sun on their backs and not a care in the world? For the four home-grown Aussies about to embark on a 6000k race across the tumultuous Indian Ocean, this is no mere joy ride. They are the only Australian team competing in the Woodvale Challenge Indian Ocean Race beginning April 19th, 2009. The race leaves from Geraldton, WA and ends in tropical Mauritius and is aptly called the Worlds Toughest Rowing Race. The first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, the racers will have the support of a safety boat in case of extreme emergencies, but are otherwise expected to be self-sufficient in their boats for the entirety of the trip.

The members of the Aussie team ‘Go West’, are determined to complete this arduous task in safety and style, and have accepted a sponsorship by Vision Direct, the leading online designer eyewear company, that will not only supply them with the best eyewear gear in the industry from Oakley, Bolle and Rudy Project, to help with the expedition.  Vision Direct adores those who face nature head on, and these rowers fit the bill with their sense of adventure, love of the outdoors and dedication to extreme sporting.

Currently the Go West team is completing months of extensive training, packing their boat full of dehydrated food and plenty of water, and gearing up in high quality designer eyewear, one of the most essential items for a 6000k over water-trek where sun reflection can cause blindness if not protected against. The team, composed of Andrew Taylor, Pete Tomic, David Louw and Matt Hort, all from Perth, are eagerly anticipating the impending launch date, and are excited to embark on this empowering and challenging race, and Vision Direct will be cheering them on in style.

Like anything else in your wardrobe, your eyewear helps determine the overall look you project to the world. Police eyewear will project one image of you while Dior will project quite the opposite. Find the key aspects of your personality that you want to emphasize and use your eyewear to portray your personality.

Fashionable- if fashion is an important part of your personality, and being in the hippest clothing something of dire desire for you, then deck out with the latest and most easily recognizable designs like Prada’s new 2009 line in bold colors or the very chic Versace look.

Sporty- for an active person, eyewear can be an accessory that seems invasive but necessary. Make a splash in your eyewear with Oakley, Ray Ban or Police eyewear, which are likely to fit your lifestyle, your look, and personality.

Conservative- For the businessperson, eyewear needs to project a serious and yet border-line creative look. Check out some edgy and fashionable conservative looks with Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein.

Artistic- For the creative types, use your eyewear to make a statement about your inner creativity. One of the best brands for this is Alexander McQueen; check out his most recent line for some creative twists on traditional designs.

Tips for parents and baby boomers – Just because you have kids doesn’t mean you are suddenly a conservative. Show your kids that personality can shine through any mundane task by projecting your personality with your image, which they will ultimately respect. Baby boomers can stay in style and keep true to the styles of their youth with retro and throwback eyewear, try Burberry or Bolle eyewear.

Have you noticed that more and more color is seeping into our accessories? Even the most high-fashion of sunglasses designers have infused their look with color, check out Prada, for example. It is almost as if our clothing has become more bland, fashion-less and stark while our accessories take up all the weight of our lagging clothing fashion.

During fashion week this year many were sourly disappointed. There was little innovation in clothing, and many designers simply looped back to previously well received designs, like polka dots and plaid, both of which have been covered already! Innovation in designer clothing has reached a new low. Where clothing is lagging, however, accessories are soaring! Designer sunglasses, wallets, shoes and to a lesser degree bags, have all skyrocketed in creativity. Check out Oliver Peoples, Dior, D&G, Versace. All of the biggest names in high fashion accessories have added color!

Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars are donning color to hide the fact that their clothing designs have not changed in several seasons. How are they expected to stay hip and modern when clothing designers have all experienced designer’s block? Where clothing lags, accessories are favored. Get the look in 2009 by wearing plain or simple clothing fashions in black, grey or denim and then adding sparkles of color with a nice watch, designer eyewear and stunning shoes. Check out some classic designs in bold colors, like the recently released colored Ray Ban Wayfarers or the ever modern Jackie- O designs in bold red and blue. Similarly, Kanye West has brought simplicity back into eyewear with his love of the traditional designs in color.

Sunglasses are key fashion accessory trend which emerged in recent years and is unlikely to wane. With the biggest stars pushing brands like Ray Ban, Police and Prada, its no wonder designer eyewear is the must-have item of 2009.

The demand for designer, fashion sunglasses is fueled by men and women (at a surprisingly equal ratio) over 40. Because sunglasses are more affordable and more versatile than designer clothing, they are heightened in times of financial straits, to the top of a chic adult’s name-brand shopping list. Along with designer bags for women and designer wallets and belts for men, sunglasses are the most noticeable and wearable of designer products.

In recent years design houses have ever-increasingly expanded their eyewear collections. According to some fashion spectators, the lack of clear fashion focus in recent years has aided the sunglasses trend. With no clear fashion accessory of the past few seasons, sunglasses are filling that void. Meanwhile, with Louis Vitton bags (the must-have item of 2006) flooded in the market, there is no clear item to urge people to move on to the next big hit. Ray Ban’s led the way with the re-launch of the wayfarer and has, in light of the fashion void, pushed retro flare and hip accessories as the trend of 2009. Additionally, the hottest in Hollywood, who used to model suits and watches, have recently been seen in a plethora of sunglasses ad campaigns. Take, for example, the sexy and sophisticated Antonio Bandaras, who models for Police sunglasses.

Sparked by the youth’s lack of wealth and thus insistence on having designer accessories they could afford, the trend has spilled over into the mass populous and has become a staple of modern fashion.

Back in fashion again, the Bee Gees have hit the top of the American Idol star’s debut songs. The now famous line “I’d won if I’d sang the Bee Gees” has sparked a resurgence in the purchase of old Bee Gees classic albums. Bee Gees fashion is hardly out of style. Band T-shirts stenciled proudly with the Bee Gees image grace storefronts in America, while their tunes have reemerged with vigor across the nation’s radio stations. Brush up on your Bee Gees trivia and make sure you get the Bee Gees look, which is expected to be all the fashion in 2009.

With all the noise surrounding the Bee Gees, lets take a quick review of their style. To get the Bee Gees look, dress all in black, or denim and find two friends who will do the same. Buy black leather jackets. One of you will need to buy a pair of Oliver People’s dark tinted shades, while the other wears Ray Ban Aviators and a third sports the Wayfarer cut. Find somewhere to buy three pairs of dark cowboy boots without spurs, and you can flip a coin to see who gets to wear the dark felt hat. Remember to modernize the look with a few key accessories. I suggest a cane for one of you, and a chain connected from your dark denim to your wallet for another. Finally, try wearing a leather jacket with nothing underneath for the third lucky coin tossing Bee Gee look alike, and there you have it- a Bee Gees trio!

Remember, Band T-shirts are coming back in style in a major way. Coupled with Ray Ban accessories, this is the best way to have the most up-to-date look while maintaining your flare for dissonance.
