Vision Direct Sponsors Meriton Sydney Golf Tournament
Filed Under Community Outreach | View Comments
From March 23-26th, 2009 the Meriton Sydney Invitational Golf Tournament dubbed the “tournament with a difference” will commence and span across four golf courses in the Sydney area. In keeping with tradition, the money raised will be donated to the Westmead Children’s Hospital. The charity golf tournament has been in existence since 2004, with a total of over $250,000AUD raised for the hospital so far. In 2008 the tournament had over 250 players, with professionals vying for $122,000 and armatures competing for $40,000. The ante has been upped for 2009, and professionals will play for an unprecedented $137,500! Winners will be announced on the final day at an awards ceremony and banquet dinner where the cheque for the children’s hospital will also be presented. To make such an event possible requires several sponsors. This week’s sponsor highlight is on Vision Direct.
Vision Direct has been involved with the charity for several years. Vision Direct, the leader in designer eyewear, is dedicated to helping the world’s improvised and ailing children, and the company is involved in several charities, NGOs and other organizations including ties with Orbis International where, in 2008, Vision Direct donated $10,000 worth of prescription eyeglasses for children in Inner Mongolia. Vision Direct believes in helping their local communities as well with events like the Meriton Sydney International Golf Tournament, where the company hopes to help the children at the Westmead hospital, but also raise awareness for the necessity of high-quality eyewear for children with vision disabilities. Finding, diagnosing and then equipping children with the necessary tools to improve their lives are firm missions of Vision Direct’s charter. Vision Direct hopes that their efforts in assisting children across the globe will improve children’s ability to see, learn, and thus enhance their lives.

Best Feminine Shades of 2009
Filed Under Brands Wave, Designer Sunglasses, Fun with Eyewear, International Designer Glasses Blogs | View Comments
Sunglasses don’t just protect your eyes, they add a sense of self to the wearer that no other accessory can. The latest in eyewear fashion are oversized sunglasses, and the biggest names in that blossoming arena of style right now are Dolce & Gabbana , Bvlgari, and Fendi. The large rounded frames are much more feminine than their square counterparts, and they offer a certain glamour that smaller sunglasses can’t. These frames appeal to the younger generations as they are easygoing and out of the ordinary.
Colors are extremely important, whether you’re going for the wild and fun, or the dark and mysterious look. Frames come in every color and the lenses do too, making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. These large sunglasses are popular in the same way that Aviators are for men. They are a cool alternative to the classic small frames. The larger the lens, the more protection it offers for your eyes, and from more angles. Small sunglasses let light come in the sides and often blind the wearer temporarily—a very annoying side effect of small sunglasses.
Most designers are catering to this new style and trying to make their creation completely original, all to the benefit of the buyer. With unlimited options, one can buy these practical sunglasses in their favorite brand. Common names like Dolce & Gabbana are sure to only gain admiration among a larger consumer crowd and in 2009 these big sunglasses are going to be the most popular fashion trend among youthful, feminine consumers.

Prada Remakes Aviators with Classic Appeal
Filed Under Brands Wave, Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Nicole Kidman has put a new spin on the 2008 rebel aviator fad with Prada classic Aviator style sunglasses. The Aviator style, originally a Ray Ban creation, has undergone several adaptations in the largest design houses across the globe. Prada’s variation enhances the metal on the ear piece – and large temple bars have been in style in recent years. Prada has done away with the gold frames, replacing with gun metal black, a very sleek and professional upgrade. Prada’s all black lenses are in contrast to Ray Bans brown tinted gradient lenses, which are in style in American youth. Prada’s more professional look is being adopted by such well known names as Nicole Kidman, a very put-together, upper class woman of style and charm.
Nicole Kidman, born and raised in the U.S.A by Australian parents, is the star of the recent film Australia. Her fashion tends to be more classic in style, and she makes her fashion statements with name brand, innovative accessories like glitzy jewelry or recently releases designer eyewear.
Aviators, made famous by General Dwight Eisenhower, were originally commissioned by a pilot looking for lightweight frames with dark lenses capable of handling the bright glare pilots often encounter. In recent years, Ray Ban aviators have come into fashion with skaters, rebels, and the fashion floppy. The Prada adaption recognizes the success of the aviator style while making it accessible to the rich and glamorous.
Prada has long been a status symbol among the wealthy. The accessories and eyewear division has boomed in recent years under the supervision of head designer Miuccia Prada. For a more professional, yet hip and popular set of frames for the winter sun, pick up a pair of the new Prada aviator style sunnies and go in style.

Dame Edna’s Special Glasses Back on Tour
Filed Under Brands Wave, Celebrity Watch, Designer Eyeglasses, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Barry Humphries, the Australian comedian, satirist and actor, struck a chord with Australian viewers when he donned the disguise of Dame Edna Everage, an Aussie housewife and friend of world leaders who spends her time jetting between her various homes and listening to the confessions of the reigning Queen.
Though we would not encourage you to dye your hair purple and imagine you are friends with the Queen, we do think that 2009 is going to be a year of innovative design and a global encouragement of fashion bravery and glitz. Get a charming and charismatic look that is not as flashy as Dame Edna, but will still make you stand out with Boucheron eyewear. These innovative and creative designs are sure to make you look artsy and yet high fashion. With muted, professional colours and all of the design focus on innovative glasses arms, these frames are sure to turn heads and make you a memorable addition to any group.
2009 is sure to be a year to remember. In San Francisco’s Post Street Theatre, the Dame is back on tour with a farewell show to a city she calls ‘charming.’ “Dame Edna: Live and Intimate in Her First Last Tour,” opened in November and continues through January 4th. She was the winner of a Tony Award on Broadway last year and continues to hold wide fame across the global pop art scene. Though a satire of the snobbery of the rising Australian middle class, the Dame’s fashion forward tips can be taken seriously in 2009 as fashion moves from subtle to loud, from lace to full out frills and from subtle eyewear to bold statements, horn rims and creative designs.
