Fashion at any age
Filed Under Blogroll, Brands Wave, Designer Eyeglasses, Eyewear Knowledge, Uncategorized | View Comments
It’s easy being fashionable when you’re a hot, sexy twenty-year-old. But looking fashionable isn’t only about looking sexy, sometimes it’s about refinement, class and character and about expressing yourself with your clothing. Viewing your wardrobe as a canvas to show who you are and what you feel is healthy, and creates a happier persona. If you’re flamboyant, get Alexander McQueen or Ed Hardy sunglasses and show your colors, if you’re girly don’t be afraid of the lacy look of Dior. Be yourself, express yourself with fashion—at all ages.
Getting old doesn’t mean getting less appealing. In fact, like wine many things get better with age. Conversational abilities, worldviews, opinions, and sometimes even fashion. You don’t see many 50-year-old women jumping in on fads and flash trends; no they wait wisely for more solid fashions and create for themselves a complete look and feel. The wise way may be harder, but it’s more rewarding and affordable than jumping on the latest trends.
For men, refinement seems to come naturally with age. Men get better as they get older and become masters of their libidos. Women, on the other hand, have a bad reputation for going down hill with age. That doesn’t have to be the case. There are many wonderfully beautiful older women who ooze refinement and class and they do it gracefully and seemingly without effort. But that isn’t the case. No one who looks organized and well put together does it effortlessly; they just want you to think they do. Get the look by giving a hoot!

Don’t Pull a Justin Bieber
Filed Under Blogroll, Brands Wave, Designer Sunglasses, Uncategorized | View Comments
Sometimes fashion can take a turn for the weird. Oddly, this time around it isn’t Lady Gaga and her ridiculous Oliver Peoples sunglasses that are setting back the fashion community. No, it’s a harmless wee boy. Justin Bieber took the world music community by storm with his oddly sexual songs sung in the high-pitched croon of a pre pubescent. His fashion sense, half childish-half gangster, is more confusing than his addiction to the limelight. Our primary advice to young boys who idolize the Biebs—don’t follow his fashion sense! Don’t pull a Bieber.
Reasons why his fashion is horrible:
1)He is blending a firm attachment to Barney the loving dinosaur with his color choices and fabric preferences. At the same time, his squinting eyes and gangster poses bring Barney into the land of the truly odd. Don’t combine fluffy, childish colors with gangster etiquette, especially as a 13-year-old white boy from a privileged background. It’s just awkward.
2)No matter what, don’t comb your hair forward. It looks like you have some sort of dehabilitating rotator cuff issue if you can’t comb your hair in a more natural or productive direction. That, or you look like someone just slapped you on the back of the head really hard. It’s not attractive or whimsical or cool, it’s silly.
3)No matter what else you do, don’t use your sunglasses as your single fashion statement. Biebs constantly wears silly clothing paired with high-end, designer sunglasses. This gives the effect of someone who knows nothing about fashion but has money to spend nonetheless.

Managing beauty and a busy life
Filed Under Blogroll, Brands Wave, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Looking fashionable isn’t easy. If it was, everyone would look fantastic and just looking around your office or gazing out the window you can assess that that simply isn’t the case. Do you see more women in Gucci or in Levis? You’re busy, life gets in the way and soon you discover you are wearing sweatpants in public after age 30. Time to turn it around. You can look fantastic in high-to mid-level gear for less than you think, and still manage your busy lifestyle.
Tip #1) Clean out your wardrobe! Imagine your hottest crush will be visiting you especially and you have 30 seconds to get dressed to meet him or her. Rummage through your closet and put everything you wouldn’t wear to this encounter in one pile. If you don’t love your clothing, get rid of it! If you can’t slip into anything in your closet and feel sexy and comfortable and fashionable then you have the wrong items in your closet.
Tip #2) Accessorize! Nothing cleans up and polishes an outfit better than good accessories. For women, a bit of glamour with jewelry is easy, but for men it’s harder. How do you show off a fashionable belt after all? Sunglasses are the key here. Sexy, fashionable and designer-brands like Prada, Armani and Dior will pull any outfit from bland to grand.
Tip #3) Streamline! Whenever you go shopping try to pick pieces that will go well with your other stuff at home. For example, if you have a lot of colorful tops don’t buy anything other than black or white bottoms so you’ll have whole outfits with the addition of one new piece. Streamline everything from more versatile shoes, bags and pants to belts and hats- just get your color splashes with tops and leave the rest as support coloring.

Prim and Proper Fashion
Filed Under Blogroll, Brands Wave, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Proper fashion is back in style. Gone are the “rebel fashion” days where combat boots and a short skirt were a sign of high fashion, or at least a rebellion from fashion that was somehow fashionable. Now, we’re seeing a surge in Tom Ford sunglasses, a traditional and prim look that suits nearly all feminine face shapes.
We’re also seeing a surge in more proper, less revealing clothing for women and less ostentatious designs for men. Fashion from an idealized youth is being reconstituted to form acceptable adult fashion trends, like the little Madeline school jacket in the image here coupled with a teddy-style dress and decent heels. The look is chic, fashionable and modern but has a throw-back element to it that is somehow reminiscent of youth and a better era.
Being prim and proper doesn’t mean what it used to in terms of being prudish. Now, proper fashion is sexy and organized, and comes across much better than it did in say, the Victorian era when there were very few women rebelling. Now, so many women use fashion to rebel that it has become the norm, and traditionalism has become the rebellion. Just look at how Katy Perry and Zoie Dashnell use proper fashion to look cute, modern and sophisticated, the exact opposite of what those styles once meant. Perhaps this was spurred by the power and lure of the wardrobes in Mad Men, or by the idea that simply too many people had adopted the rebel’s uniform, making it no longer rebellious. Either way, the look has died and been replaced by chic and fashionable women with a more proper and prim series of dresses, shoes, accessories and flare.

The Psychology of Eyewear
Filed Under Blogroll, Brands Wave, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
The sunglasses or eyeglasses you choose say a lot about you. From hints about your personality to downright statements about your beliefs, fashion has a way of acting as a billboard for your internal self. Sunglasses are an especially important fashion tool because they cover the eyes- the gateway to the soul. A man wearing Serengeti has different aspirations, personality and goals than a man wearing Ed Hardy. That’s obvious, but what is less obvious is why specific looks sprung up to match certain personality types.
Sporty sunglasses don’t just signal a person’s love of a certain sport, or their athleticism. More importantly, it’s a signal to women that they are ready to mate. Put simply, like most animals human males compete for female attention in a variety of ways. Athleticism is one of the most base methods for demonstrating physical strength, which women translate into security. Sporty shades cover the all-important vision center and make this show of physicality all the more apparent and obvious.
Designer shades are a similar showmanship on men, and signifies wealth. The modern man’s way of demonstrating he can provide for a woman. Still, this is more complicated because it carries a hierarchy within the male pack as well.
Wild and flashy sunglasses, like the Ed Hardy and Alexander McQueen styles popular with youth, signify an immature ability to figure out what women want, and therefore how to best attract a mate. Often this type of showmanship leads to short courtships without fulfilling the ultimate mammal aim of procreation.

Skin Cancer Fatalities on the Decline
Filed Under Blogroll, Brands Wave, Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Slowly but surely, fashion is moving away from the ultra tan, sun-bleached look that was so popular in the 1990s. Healthy natural glows are still in style, but so are the super pale models who represent the vast majority of us in terms of tans and sun-kissed smoothness. This, combined with the surge in high-quality sunglasses like Carrera and Ray Bans, and new information about sun screen, skin cancer rates are starting to decline.
Fifteen years ago there were people dying of melanoma. Today, advances in medicine help to prolong the lives of people who suffer from this skin disease. Still, the single best thing to happen in the field has been the widespread understanding that too much sun is dangerous, just like not enough is detrimental to our health.
Kids have been taught to wear a hat outdoors, to wear sunglasses when in the sun, and to slather up and down with sunscreen when we plan on being outdoors for the day. This is common knowledge that’s been beat into our heads since kindergarten. Not so for our parents, who lathered up with grease and oil to help the sun more fully penetrate their skin. Sunglasses were a fashion statement, not a medically-sanctioned health tool. Today, the pale skin our grandparents saw as sickly is considered beautiful, and rightly so. It’s natural.
Thanks to these advances in culture and science melanoma deaths are on the decline, and the reported number of skin cancer patients is starting to dramatically decrease.

Modern Feminine Chic
Filed Under Blogroll, Brands Wave, Designer Eyeglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Sexy women everywhere are finding the modern chic look as professional and passionate as their own femininity. With more high-powered women in the political and business realms than every before, it’s a great time to be a fashionable, powerful and chic woman. You can still wear Versace or even Ray Bans and be a power player, and a fashionable one, in today’s modern workplace.
Two essential tips to keep up with the incredibly smart, feminine, powerful and chic women of today’s workplace follow:
Feminine Power Tip: Don’t be shy in the workplace with your fashion. In fact, women who wear solid colors from floor to face command slightly more respect than pairing colors, which is more casual. A single color is closer to a man’s suit. Still, you don’t have to mimic men’s fashion in today’s office place. There is, however, a limit to the creativity that is really acceptable in office attire. Think professional, but infuse that with your femininity.
Confidence Boost Tip: Heels make women feel sexy, we all know that and have felt that rush. Still, is sex appeal appropriate for the office? Sexy shoes will always set women slightly apart from men because they make us unbalanced, they hurt, and they slow us down. Sex appeal may not be worth that in a fast-paced office. Flats are appropriate and can be sexy as well, especially in slipper form. Look for alternatives to heels and feel your spine realign and your energy increase.

Sunnies for tough ladies
Filed Under Brands Wave, Eyewear Knowledge, Fun with Eyewear, International Designer Glasses Blogs | View Comments
Strong women need strong fashion to command the respect and awe they deserve. Anna Wintour the celebrity Vogue editor, is one such woman. She exudes power while remaining feminine and beautiful. She does this with high fashion, like the Prada eyewear most powerful business women adore, or the delightfully less obtuse Versace shades.
Pink, once a feminine, seemingly childish color, has been reclaimed by many strong women. In Japan, many business women still cart around Hello Kitty gear to and from the office, or deck out their cars with Hello Kitty accessories. This doesn’t seem to demean them (in their own eyes) but acts as a comfort to these strong powerful women, and as a symbol to other strong willed and independent women. Hello Kitty on an executive in Australia might raise a few eyebrows, however.
One way to look tough is to wear more masculine sunglasses. Black is always as commanding and strong color, and exudes confidence as well as power. Ms. Wintour, in the image here, not only looks tough, but demands respect. This is despite her frilly necklace and overly pink clothing. The power sunglasses, in fact, make the woman.
Some of the best brands for strong women include Prada, Gucci, Dior, Tom Ford and Versace, all of which are bulky and strong designs with dark coloring options. The darker the tint the better in terms of adding power and appeal for sexy, strong women. Remember, it isn’t how you dress but how you carry yourself, and carrying yourself with confidence is easy with dark Prada shades on.

Celebrity Fashion Trends 2012
Filed Under Brands Wave, Eyewear Knowledge, Fun with Eyewear, International Designer Glasses Blogs | View Comments
Okay celebrity watchers, it’s time to test how observant you’ve been in the few months of 2012. Did you notice that skinny jeans are all the rage? But what about the addition of sexy heels? That wasn’t a feature last year in spring when flats were all the rage. What about the oversized Tom Ford sunglasses? These are always a hit, but 2012 is no exception and the bigger the better seems to be the case for eyewear. Did you notice the stunning white bag craze? We did too! It’s out of the blue and a throwback to grandma’s generation, but we’re liking it.
Blue seems to be the color of choice for spring, which is a step away from the old traditional adherence to pastels, flowers and polka dots. Still, the blues hint at a longer winter lethargy, and really blues are sexy any time of year.
One curious addition to 2012’s early fashion trends is hairstyles. Simple, middle-parted long hair is in style. This is a distinct throwback to the ‘60s, though this look remains more pulled-back and off the face than the ‘60s variety.
How can you get the look for less? For starters, never skimp on the accessories. Real Tom Ford sunglasses are a must. You can get them cheaper online than at a retailer. Real shoes are another must. You can spot cheap heels a mile away, but the real ones just ooze sexiness. And when your bag is giant and white, it better be authentic or you’ll be barking up the wrong tree entirely with that look.

Fashion Tutorial
Filed Under Brands Wave, Eyewear Knowledge, Fun with Eyewear, International Designer Glasses Blogs | View Comments
Fashion 101 is not a class for the weak of heart. It’s for those who want to make the most of what they were born with, and do it with style. It’s not about following whatever Gucci trend Lady Gaga is but about finding your beautiful features and embellishing them, and finding your flaws and working to minimize them in a realistic, subtle way.
Lesson 1: Avoid copying the celebrities. True, they are stars and stars burn bright. But then they supernova. And just like the stars in the sky, by the time you see a celebrity it’s shine has actually waned and the star is so far away from reality we just haven’t realized it burnt out yet. The smarter thing to do is follow trends that work for your body and face shape and colors.
Lesson 2: Toss out your mama’s fashion advice. If your mom told you to wear black if you have a big rump, or wear shoulder pads to make you look more substantial on top than start to toss out this dinosaur-age intel. Now women are encouraged to enhance what makes them stand out, not break down their uniqueness. If you have a big rear—make it stand out! Wear brighter bottoms, wear a belt to show off your tiny waist compared to your carriage. Be bold and brave and stick your best qualities out there.
Lesson 3: Layer and color. Layers add depth, texture and a deeper sense of fashion to any look. Scarves, jewelry, necklaces and belts, bags and even designer sunglasses all add layers to your look. Throw in colors whenever possible and you’ll have a look that pops with appeal.
